What is Holistic Nutrition?
Holistic nutrition is a growing field that connects the mind, body and spirit. It is relevant to an individual as a whole, and works to bring balance to all areas of their life by observing dietary intake, supplements and lifestyle.
Holistic nutrition strongly believes the properties of natural nutrients are best summed up with these four words: natural, alive, good quality.
Natural: as in unprocessed, unrefined foods, such as whole grains and legumes.
Alive: meaning foods still contain live enzymes, such as fruit, vegetables, and sprouts.
Good quality: meaning grown in soil rich with essential nutrients such as organically grown foods (pesticide free and grown without synthetic fertilizers)
What is a Registered Holistic Nutritionist?
A registered holistic nutritionist (RHN) is a professional trained in natural nutrition whose main focus is to educate individuals about the benefits and health impacts of optimal nutrition. They help guide their clients through conflicting information from books, magazines and the media, which can often be confusing.
Mainstream medicine does not emphasize the significance of poor nutrition as a major cause of many health disorders. Holistic nutritionists work with clients to identify nutritional causes of diseases with proper nutrition to help support the body return to optimal function. They are qualified to design personalized diet and lifestyle programs to optimize overall health. They count nutrients not calories, and focus on the quality of food with the right quantity in mind.
Holistic nutritionists promote natural, alive and good quality foods. It’s about eating right and enjoying delicious healthy meals while supporting your individual needs. RHNs recommend replacing processed and packaged foods with healthy choices and discourage toxic lifestyles. They consider the different aspects of the mind, body and spirit when discussing the relationship between food and health, as well as the connection between the world and the ecology of the earth.
